Lauren Price began playing mandolin around the age of nine, and has devoted most of her time to studying and learning the mandolin style of Bill Monroe. She grew up listening to the oldtime, traditional style of music from such artists as Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family, Bill Monroe, the Osborne Brothers, and brother duets, which led to a love of the more traditional side of bluegrass and old-time music. As a teenager, Lauren began attending workshops such as the Swannanoa Gathering, Augusta Heritage Festival, and Monroe Mandolin Camp, advancing both her instrumental and vocal talents while also performing with her family band.
As one-half of the duo, The Price Sisters, Lauren has been able to travel and perform at festivals from Michigan to Georgia, and Colorado to Maine, with performances at Bill Monroe’s Bean Blossom Festival, as well as live and taped radio and television performances on various programs including RFD-TV’s Cumberland Highlanders Show, Radio Bristol Farm and Fun Time, and Song of the Mountains. In 2015, Lauren participated in a ten-day tour of the Peoples Republic of China as a member of Morehead State University’s Mountain Music Ambassadors. The Price Sisters were 2017 World of Bluegrass Official Showcase Artists, and their self-titled Rebel Records EP was included in the first-round of the 2017 Grammy ballot for best bluegrass album. The Price Sisters have also been featured in publications including Bluegrass Unlimited. Lauren has been a three-year mandolin instructor at Bean Blossom Bluegrass Bootcamp, an instructor at the Bobby Osborne Mandolin Roundup, and an instructor at the prestigious Monroe Mandolin Camp in both 2016 and 2017.
Lauren is a 2017 graduate of Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky, where she earned a BA in traditional music with a concentration in bluegrass, and a minor in business administration. Throughout the summer of 2017, Lauren and Leanna recorded what will be their first full-length album for Rebel Records, scheduled for release in early 2018. Lauren also continues to perform year-round with The Price Sisters band, and is thrilled to be working with GHS Strings!
